Smart #1 achieves five stars in Euro NCAP safety tests

The most recent Euro NCAP tests distinguished the 100% electric Smart #1, with a maximum score of five stars.

In a statement, Euro NCAP announced that it tested the new Smart, a zero-emission SUV that sets the brand on the path to the electric future, achieving good performance in all the categories tested, with the adult protection category receiving the highest rating, with 98%, followed by child protection where it obtained an 89% rating.

In terms of driving assistance systems, on the other hand, it collected 88%, while in the protection category for the most vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, Smart #1 achieved 71%

It should be remembered that the Smart #1 has a wide range of driving assistance systems, especially the Extensive smart Pilot, which allows semi-autonomous driving on the highway. In addition, the new Smart model also has an adaptable cruise speed with the Stop & Go function, an active roadway maintenance system, assistance for driving on motorways and traffic jams, as well as an automatic parking system and assistance system for monitoring blind spots.

The Smart #1 is equipped with a propulsion system based on a 200 kW electric motor installed on the rear axle, equivalent to 272 hp of power and a torque of 343 Nm of maximum torque. These numbers allow the #1 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h.

The electric motor is powered by a 66 kWh battery, which according to the brand, allows a range of up to 440 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.

Smart also revealed that the battery can be charged with an alternating current of 22 kW and with a direct current of 150 kW, in other words, recharging the battery can take 10 to 80% in 3.5 hours, in the first case, and less than 30 minutes the 150 kW fast charging option.
